Short films What is a short film? Short film- a short film is any film that cannot be called a featured film due to the length of the film being too short. The length has to be 40 minutes or less to be called a short film. It is an industry term which carries more of an assumption that the film is shown as part of a presentation along with a feature film. Short films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals and made by independent filmmakers for non-profit, either with low budget or no budget at all.
