Departments
There are many departments that work on a film project, examples of these departments are Director, production, camera and lighting, production sound and art department.
A skeleton crew is the minimum number of
personnel needed to operate and maintain an item at its simplest operating
requirements such as a ship or business, during an emergency and, at the same
time, to keep vital functions operating. The five essentials roles are director of photography, makeup/hair, production assistant, location audio and gaffer/grip.
The two positions he missed were production designer and
script supervisor. A production Designer is needed because they could make your
production look great as if it had a massive budget even if it had a small
budget.
Script supervisor are very important because if your
production continues over a few days or longer there would have to be a lot to
keep continuing through each scene such as props, costume and makeup. However,
most indie films don’t have to keep continuity as much as other types of films.
This is why it wasn’t included.
Makeup/hair are important because it helps the viewer
identify and differentiate characters between others. Also a character’s
appearance might change from scene to scene so a makeup/hair artist makes it an
easier task.
A bigger budget film will most likely be longer and have a
large enough budget to have specialists in each sector of production. An example
of this is special effects
